This bird is common in wooded yards, parks, etc.  The male has a red stripe from the crown of the head to the back of the bill.  Females have the red stripe on the crown only.  It has distinct uniform  barred pattern on its back. It ‘s call is a loud ”churr”  and sometimes a repeated “chig chig” sound.  It will eat insects, suet and seed.
