Bird Behavior Overview
We get a lot of similar types of questions from our customers such as the following:
How do I attract Cardinals to my yard?
Why don’t I get the birds that I want to see?
In order to answer these and similar questions, we must understand birdfeeding from the bird’s point of view. Birds have preferences as to what types of food they prefer and how that food is supplied to them. Some birds prefer to eat on a flat surfaces while others like to perch. Some birds prefer peanuts while other will only eat nectar. Think about your own preferences for a moment....
Do you enjoy liver and onions? What about rhubarb pie?
Drive through restaurants? Or a fancier dive?
Just as we have food and restaurant preferences, so do wild birds prefer certain feed and locations to eat it. Therefore to attract wild birds to your yard, you must provide an area as close as possible to their natural feeding environment and a diet that is agreeable to their palate. The links below describe that environment for each group of birds.
