Suet Feeders

|
These cage bird feeders hold rendered suet. You can buy suet from the grocery store; however, it can turn rancid in the summer, and brittle in the winter, so most birders feed rendered suet to woodpeckers, nuthatches and others (“clinging” birds). Since these birds eat larvae and insects in the crevices of tree trunks, rendered suet is a great substitute. Cage bird feeders should be hung out on branches, shepherd hooks, or near a tree or bush. The fat from suet is particularly important in cold weather to give these birds heat and energy to survive to cold winter nights.
